Weedwaka Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Hey Guys, I have to change my domain name and was in the process of copying the site to a new server with the new domain attached. Now I am second guessing the idea and thinking it may be alot easier to leave the site in place and modify it with the new domain ( name change ) Can you please help me decide what to do . Pros and cons of each ? What would I have to do if I just wanted to change the domain on the existing install ? I guess I cant have two domains that point to the same site for a while ? Any help is greatly appreciated !!
Jack_mcs Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Having more than one domain name point to the same site is possible and quite common. If you want to have the new one as the main one, then you will need to edit your configure files in the shop and may need to have your host eidt the hosting account (it depends on how your shop is setup). You would need to talk to them to see what is needed. In any event, changing the name on the existing site is easier than creating a new one.
