Or is my site such a mess that someone is offering me "backend" help (unsolicited).

Humm....

I sometimes get PMs from someone needing help...

if it is about something I wrote in the forums or a contribution I made, then I generally help them... if not, then I take on the scale of help needed, or at least point them in the right direction to someone who maybe can help...

I always answer and am never rude to them though... that helps no one.

Deborah,

If the offer was soliciting paid work on your site and you did not ask for it, you can report it. Just follow the instructions in the PM.

PS- I'd be insulted too If I'd received a PM from someone wanting to help if I hadn't asked for it..

Thanks Kim,

I didn't really know what to do, it was for me to pay them for work on my site and I haven't asked for help.

When people pm me ASKING for help, that is different and I do try to help. I have also pm'd people offering to help them out with a problem they have posted, but never asking for compensation.

But it is A) Annoying and B) Insulting to get a pm offering "backend" help with a link to a resume and website offering services for hire. My site isn't perfect, but it is partially because I am concentrating on other things, not because I don't know how to make it better.

When I get a "You've Got a Private Message" email, I usually expect to hear from someone I am familiar with.

That can be called UCE/SPAM. Please inform a Team Member of this so that we can take appropriate action. We do not want this to happen. But if we are not informed of this we cannot take action ;-)

It is SPAM. And if you find it not acceptable, forward it to a team member so that we can contact the sender.

This is going to sound dumb, how do I forward a PM? I don't seem to see an option for it. I may be be blind.

You can't really forward.

Simply select all the text of the message, right click, copy.

Then PM / e-mail one of the Team members, right click, paste...

Thanks,

Mattice

I sent Deborah a PM offering to help her as in a topic she stated that she was too busy working on sites to work on her on.

So I sent her a PM offering to help her out. No money was asked for or mentioned as I was not expecting to get paid. I was simply trying to help.

You may just want to post the body of the message here on the forum so everyone can see that.

Please disregard my offer of assistance and I apologize for any trouble my offer my have caused you.

My mistake, I misunderstood. It was unclear in the PM since it sent me to a resume and I assumed it was for compensation. We all know what ASS-u-ME-D means! But since your name was unfamiliar I became suspicous. I should have pm'd you back first to clarify. Blame it on all-nighters ?? please??

I am sorry if I caused any disruption, I had not reported who it was to the team as yet.

And you are right, I did post somewhere that I have been very busy.

Are you getting emails / PM's from other forum members ?

Are they offering to makeover /help with your store for X Dollars ?

Have they sent you an estimated cost ?

No need to worry, help is here.

For just 25 % of there estimated cost, I will send them a template based email to say your not interested.

For 200% , I will write a custom email of 41 words (max) and mail it to there inbox! .

You will be sent a free (Yep!) copy of the email (which would have cost between 25% and 200% )!

if you respond within 5 months you will get a 10% discount

Actually, I owe you an apology for sending such a brief PM. It was meant as a brief introduction of my intentions to offer help and allow you to view my skill set (hence the resume link) without taking a lot of your time.

I had the train of thought that if you were interested in receiving help, you would want to know my skills to verify they are in the areas that you needed and then you would send a PM to me for additional information or declining the offer.

I did not want to send you a lengthy PM for something that you may not even be interested as that would just be rude. In hindsight, perhaps I should have included just a wee-bit more information.

What say we forgive each other and call it even? :?:

Again, my apologies for any trouble that I have cause you. I was just attempting to help.

I wish you a good day ? and get some sleep.
