Hi, having a weee problem, When someone checks out with an order i recieve an email updating me, but nothing is sent out to the customer confirming the order or what not... infact no automatic email updates are getting to the customer, order update, confirmation, new accounts ect. All this has started since I had to change over comps, but ive changed nothing server side... Could someone point me in a rough direction to what it could be please. Thanks.

The new computer reads the email for the customer?

How do you mean?

You use an email client to read the email of the customer account (the one you are testing with).

Hmmm im not sure, is that how oscommerce works? Ive never made any mods to that section. If it is the case then its a matter of configuring outlook express correctly? Thanks.

What do you have under Admin: Configuration: E-mail Options?

I guess that means they don't gey the emails.

I can't see why changing computers would cause that.

Is there any options or settings im missing that I just need to flick the switch on? Thanks for your help in advance :).

Whoa.

Is your site hosted on your computer or home network, or is it on a remote webserver?

If the former, it could be firewall settings on the router or something. If the later, nothing should have changed.

Remote webserver. Are the emails for order confirmation sent out from outlook or from the server. Outlook is now all configured and theres a test button which i clicked... it connected to the incoming and outgoing server, but wierdly when i try to send a mail from there it doesnt work. But if all outlook is there to do is read the email address that shouldnt be a problem right?

If you're trying to use your domain mail server to send email from home/work, you're probably getting blocked by your ISP (which probably requires you to use their server for outgoing mail). The email generated by the web site will come from the host's mail server, not your computer/ISP mail server.

Hmmm dont think this is the case, I checked my old test orders and they always recieved confirmation emails from the one ive always been using to send my normal mails ect without any problems. Plus if my ISP is blocking the mail then shouldnt it block all mail coming from that address, as I can still send mail from it??

The emails generated are coming from the address stipulated under osc admin ---->configuration----> my store ----> E-Mail From?

Im confused but nothing new there.

Thanks for the help so far Leslie and Dave.

Maybe its just the way im reading it now, but those 2 lines make me look like a sarky a** hole lol... Was a genuine thanks :).

Can anyone explain to me the process that oscommerce goes through when generating an email for say order confirmation, then ill have a checklist of things to tick off.

Osc is full of suprises I just found out today that all my text colours are reversed on mozilla, so the roll over and prices are black and the main text red, when on IE its red roll overs and black text, wierd.

The emails are sent out from the server.

I really don't know that I can help you. The closest approximation that I have to your set up is my wamp test site. I can send emails from the wamp site via my isps mail server. Outlook only comes into it if I choose to read the email in outlook (which I can do only if I have the account in outlook that the email was sent to).

The email setup is that of a stock store. If outlook plays no part, then what possible reasons are there for the server to stop sending out these automated messages, if I have changed non of the coding on the site?

No the server is hosted by a company in america. Plus I can send emails from that email address... its just the automated ones that are not being fired off.

When someone checks out an order through a stock Osc store, what exactly happens, where is there email address ripped from and the process for it being sent? Is that all done server side? Thanks.

Yes, all server side. The email cmes from their account. So did your webhosts change something?
