Thumbnails proportions - how to keep the correct proportions...

Simple question for the seasoned OSCommerce users:

 

How do you keep the correct proportions of the image?

 

I have images with all different proportions, but all are being forced in whatever settings I chose under "image" (say 100px wide by 80px high). How do you go around this?

 

I friend of mine is using an older OS Commerce software, I think v.2.1 and his thumbnails always keep the correct proportions and images never get distorted. In his ADMIN panel under "configuration" there is an extra category called "Thumbnails" and is located just below "Images". Is this an option I can install as well...?

your friend is probably using a thumbnail contribution if there is an extra catagory. however, you can put 0 in either height or width and the pictures will stay in the correct proportions and will just set the size according to the other.
