I need a 2nd manufacturer / 2nd category way to sort my products.. here goes..

I have a client that sells car parts..

OsCommerce offers MANUFACTURER and CATEGORIES

Here's my dilemma, I'll use a random product.. how about a VW beetle stereo harness.

MANUFACTURER - Harness King (osCommerce has me covered on this one, i just make a new MFG. No Sweat!)

CATEGORY - Products > Audio > Harnesses (osCommerce is ok on this one too, Just make a few categories!)

CAR MAKE - ??

CAR MODEL - ??

CAR YEARS - ??

How could I have have a similar category-esque type of tree for my car types, almost like a 2nd category in a sense.. most customers sort by their car type. Is there a community add-on that accomplishes this task? I looked, but I wasn't even sure what the official name of a feature like this is called? I'm using OSC 2x latest version.

Additional product matrix? Dependant Attribute?

Thanks! Any help is appreciated!! :)

A quick and dirty way to allow customers to find specific makes and models is to get them to do a search. If you include the make and model in the title of the listing then it is searchable.

Or with a little work you could copy the manufacturer box and rename it to make (for example) and then you could populate makes just like manufacturers and let them filter on those. Copy and repeat for model and others.

Or without actually changing any code, you could setup your categories differently, for example if you created sub categories like:

product/vw bettle/audio

product/vw bettle/wheels

It's a lot more work up front in the setup, but then customers can pretty well navigate to exactly what they want.

etc.

Did this for one of the sites I created: cueworld.com.au

Otherwise I haven't seen a contrib that lets you have multiple category trees (yet).

Good luck.
