Use of Add-ons and their versions

I am new to the osCommerce community and am getting myself familiar with the various aspects of it. I want to include an add-on to the basic package that allows more than one image to be displayed with a product. I found the list of add-ons for this and selected one and downloaded one of the most recent versions. The documentation for it was very sketchy, though, and I'm not sure what I have.

 

The download included quite a number of files, but according to the instructions with the download there were only 4 files that were changed. Now I don't know if that means there were only 4 files changed from the last update or are there 4 files that I have to change to the original osCommerce download.

 

Is there a protocol for how these various fixes are done? Does each version contain all files to the add-on or just files for that particular fix?

Unfortunately, no. It is one of the biggest problems with the contribution section. Many think it is acceptable to just upload one file to make a change. A number of contributions have been hurt due to this practice. The best thing to do, if it is not clear, is to ask in the support thread for the contribution you are using. The people in that thread will be more familiar with the last version to use.
