HLT
Hi all, I realize similar questions have been asked hundreds of times here, but I've been unable to find one exactly like ours, so here goes. Our store has been partially down for a week because of this and neither our hosting server experts nor our programmers can figure out what is wrong. Please help if you can, we are losing significant amounts of money by the day... Bottom line, we are on a dedicated server, with Apache running as a CGI module behind a CGI wrapper. User goes to store home page, clicks thumbnail image to view, then clicks "In Cart" to add to store. The following screen is blank and says "Your cart has nothing in it!" To verify, we installed a completely new, uncustomized version of the very latest snapshot today. You can duplicate this bug by going here: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/progs/shop/cat...log/default.php Please let me know what we should check as far as settings, configurations, etc., and I will confirm what our settings are. Thanks for any help. HLT . www.hairlosstalk.com Consumer Hair Loss Information & Support

HLT
And another correction, PHP is running as a CGI module on our Apache server. . www.hairlosstalk.com Consumer Hair Loss Information & Support
agtlewis
Might be way off base here, but maybe double check the apache settings and php settings for sessions. If sessions are not working correctly that may be the root of the problem. Hope that helps.
HLT
We've been through those circles 100x so far. We've tried making sure PHP version was the same on HTTP and HTTPS (previously one was 4.1.2 and the other was 4.2.3), we've tried making sure user was the same on HTTP and HTTPS (previously one was "nobody" the other was "hairlosstalk"). We've tried having the PHP guru at the hosting company look thru all the settings on the server, and he says they're all perfectly fine. He told us to find out if OSCommerce is capable of running with PHP as a CGI module behind "CGI Wrappers". Is it? The other option is running PHP as an Apache module. Should it? agtlewis
Running php as an apache module is ALWAYS MUCH BETTER than running it as CGI.
HLT
Everyone else got all these highly technical suggestions in resonse to similar problems. All we get is "Change web hosts" > hehehehe... Cmon someone must have something else to suggest :) I dont understand why this has to be such a difficult thing to fix. OSCommerce is one of the best stores out there and ive seen hundreds of posts on problems with sessions and cookies, yet none of my other programs, including this very forum software (PHPBB) or our copy of Postnuke have this problem. I can't justify closing down the entire shop, changing all our billing, physically moving everything on our site, signing a new contract, etc etc etc ... just because we can't add something to our shopping cart. HLT
Running php as an apache module is ALWAYS MUCH BETTER than running it as CGI. Ok but is that what our problem is? Could it even be related? Also, the hosting company (hostway.com is our host - rated # 1 in the country this year) said running it that way had some security risks, so they preferred not to, but I could request it. I feel like this may be like a guy with cancer being told to exercise daily. Sure it will help his overall health, but is it going to cure the cancer? . www.hairlosstalk.com Consumer Hair Loss Information & Support
agtlewis
In my opinion running php as an apache module would not only solve the problem, but it would also make your site faster. I could be wrong, but it's worth a shot for the speed boost alone.
HLT
Host wont let me make that change unfortunately. Im so completely lost here. If anyone is truly an expert on this, I would be willing to pay you for your time if you can resolve it. Just let me know. We've attempted to match versions of php between http and https, we've checked permissions on the folder where sessions are being written, and they seem okay, people are suggesting changing session directory ownership to "nobody" (i have no idea what that means or if thats even going to help).
