Guest
Hi There, Can anybody help me please - I have been struggling with this for weeks now. I am based in South Africa and want to tax only South African customers, but not international customers. How do I go about setting up the taxes for that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Guest
Alexandra. I assume S Africa only has one tax and that it is applied to all of south Africa. Assuming that, this is a simple tax breakdown for you. =================== Step-by-Step SETUP: =================== STEP (1): Set the location for your store: Configuration --> My Store - Country: South Africa - Zone: Johannesburg ======================================================== STEP (2): Create the "Tax Zones". The are geographical regions where a particular set of tax laws applies Locations/Taxes --> Tax Zones Create the Zone for all of South Africa - Zone Name: S Africa Tax Zone - Description: Taxable Goods Now click on the newly created "South Africa Tax Zone" row to drill down one level to "Sub Zones" Click INSERT to create 8 new sub-zones, one at a time: - Country: South Africa; Zone: Eastern Cape - Country: South Africa; Zone: Free State - Country: South Africa; Zone: Gauteng - Country: South Africa; Zone: KwaZulu-Natal - Country: South Africa; Zone: Limpopo - Country: South Africa; Zone: Mpumalanga - Country: South Africa; Zone: Northern Cape - Country: South Africa; Zone: Western Cape ======================================================== STEP (3): Create the "Tax Classes" Locations/Taxes --> Tax Classes - Tax Class Title: VAT Class - Description: All taxable goods ======================================================== STEP (4): TAX RATES Here is where it all comes together: Tax Rates. Tax Rates associate Tax Zones & Tax Class to determine the correct Tax Rate. Locations/Taxes --> Tax Rates create SIX (6) Tax Rates: - Tax Class Title: VAT Class - Zone: S Africa Tax Zone - Tax Rate (%): 14.0 - Description: 14.0% - Priority: 1 I think that will do it. The most time consuming thing will be to add the VAT Class to all your products. Test this out before doing them all, I have just modified a Standard Tax setup for use in S Africa but the structure should still work. Chris Hi Chris, Thank you very much for your response - I dont have a zone for South Africa and there are no options for johannesburg. Will this be a problem in setting up the further steps? Is this zone setting required?
