Guest
Ok Matti, Got the background infoboxes fixed. Slight error in styles.css forgot the # symbol before the background colour. Weird IE did not mind? --------------------------------- Slight error in scroller height in Netscape though. Thanks again for browser advice. Guest
Hi Debbie, Color Symbolism Charts are a load of bull! ------------------------------------------------------- I know of lots of colour co ordinated sites that have gone to the wall! ------------------------------------------------------- My target market is for the 18's to 30's. My selling points are price, fast efficient delivery and prompt friendly aftersales service. ------------------------------------------------------- Basically I like the way it looks and feels. ------------------------------------------------------- My previous site used roughly the same colours and sales were fine! ------------------------------------------------------ Of course if sales were suddenly to drop, then I'd reconsider. Purple and black are my favourite colours at the mo. Jeff.

I have another site I am designing that has fire and flames as a theme and I want to see what the charts say about red/black, red/offwhite, and other red combinations. I really dislike red/white and don't like harsh colors. I have my own theories about color, and just wanted to compare my experiences to what the "experts" are saying. One of my favorite sites is wizardsandwars site, and that is black/purple. Debbie [no external urls in signatures please, kthanks]
Guest
Ok, Sorry Debbie, I thought you were one of the "I hate your colours, it will never work, change them" clan. ------------------------------------------------ This is my "Blue" period web site. ------------------------------------------------ The symbolism chart must be somewhere on that site although I still thing its garbage. Guest
Hi Stephen, I have toned down the main text and links. As regards looking like a porno site, I wouldn't know as I have never visited one (maybe thats why your eyes are bad). --------------------------------------------- Here's another couple of bright sites, I think you better inform them that they also look like porno sites. http://www.warnerbrothers.com/ http://www.universalpictures.com/ http://mgm.com/ They might be under the impression that they are movie sites. -------------------------------------------- Jeff. Guest
From HDPL in the rules for My Store: Please accept any criticism that is posted - there is no need to get upset if not-nice things are written about your site. Take this sort of criticism as very good advice as your potential customers will most probably not say anything about it, they will simply not come back to your store. Those criticising, please mind your manners. Also post suggestions on how to fix the areas you are criticising. This isnt a means of "voting" if the site is good or not - it is a means of discussing ways to improve areas. Just a little reminder...Jeff, you asked for the critique. If you don't like our opinions, that's ok, but you do not have to get so defensive about it. If you don't like what we have to say, you don't have to read it. :)
mattice
[porno]..as I have never visited one You must be the first person I have ever heard of to have surfed the internet WITHOUT (accidentally or not) visiting a porno site... I'm impressed. :D "Politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them"

seCret steVe
im not saying that your site looks like a porn site....but rule of thumb is if someone is surfing the net and they come across a site that is dark there first impression is a porn site...now dont get me wrong i know your site is not....but it is a misconception and i dont want to see someones online store fail due to that....im only looking out for the best of your interest. Guest
Ok Mattice, I probably have been "redirected" to a porno site and had a quick look (I'm only human). ------------------------------------------------- Sorry Kim, I was just being sarcastic. I mean, how would you like it if he said your site looked like a porno site? It's a totally absurd statement. ------------------------------------------------ Jeff. seCret steVe
i agree with you on that statis if i was saying something bad about your site....which im not....it is not a bad comment at all. It is just to make those aware.
Guest
Jeff, I just wanted to point out that even with negative remarks we need to take a serious look at what is being said. After my remark about the purple being so bright it hurt my eyes, I wasn't insulted when you wrote: "Kim: Colourful site, yellow hurt eyes, copyright, wrong year. " I simply took a good hard look and figured you were probably right that the yellow was a bit too bright and I redid my color scheme. Hopefully, I saved someone else's eyes. Now, I have seen lots of non-porn sites with black backgrounds. They are not generally sites I would shop at simply because they are hard to read as a rule. So, I would, make the best of what you have gotten and see how your sales are. If it works for you great! If it doesn't, you change the colors. Enjoy! loxly
but rule of thumb is if someone is surfing the net and they come across a site that is dark there first impression is a porn site... Wow, I've never heard that one before. Guess I don't go to porn sites on purpose, so I didn't know they are all dark ;-) I have been to a lot of dark sites that are medival or mystical, and I have see lots of porn sites with white backgrounds, although if I run across one I usually have to shut down rather quickly due to the annoying popup ads, so don't tend to pay much attention to design/style :!: A large number of nuke gaming sites are dark themed too, which may be why Jeff picked that theme, if that is what the kids that are buying his products like, I suppose I would design that way too. I think that rather than asking *us* for a site critique, other than function, Jeff, you need to find a group that consists of your target audience and run it by them. Do you belong to a group of web developers that are in the age group? Or a mailing list that won't consider it advertising if you ask them to go check out your site and comment on it? Guest
Thanks Debbie, As I mentioned before this is my second site, my first looked much the same except it was a all a lighter purple. --------------------------------------------------------- Sales were great, shipped all over world, but being based in the UK, my previous clearing merchant Authorize.net through Planetpayment.com (mainly US) which came as the only available clearing module with my "Webshop 2000"programme, was a nightmare. -------------------------------------------------------- The problem was "CHARGEBACKS", I found out too late that anyone with a creditcard number, was being authorised. They could only check names and addresses in the USA. I of course being a bit naive, shipped movies to Pakistan, Russia, Uganda and anywhere! All orders were for 3 or 4 movies, no more. I did not realise that even though a name and address seemed ok, they could and did use stolen cc numbers. 25% of orders in one month alone were chargebacks. Amounting to around ?1.500 gbp. ------------------------------------------------------- So now with my new store, I will only ship goods to bonafied countries and use the likes of Paypal, Moneybookers or Nochex who offer some protection from chargebacks. I advise all new store owners to be very aware of fraudulent transactions. Never ship to the likes of Pakistan, Russia, Uganda. ------------------------------------------------------ Once bitten twice shy! ------------------------------------------------------ Sorry for going on a bit! Max40
Hi why don't you try and place white stripts in the background on the left and right nave bars. Some thing along the lines of 1 white bar every 2-3 pixels of the purple. That will lighten the look of the site. how about placiing a boarder around the images in the middle . Also the image of the dancer is out of pooportion with the rest of the site. try finding a female head image with head phones on enjoying the music I would suggest you down size the intro. looks good though, keep us informed. regards Max
mazza
although if I run across one I usually have to shut down rather quickly due to the annoying popup ads, so don't tend to pay much attention to design/style Just use some pop-up killer or mozilla or opera with pop-ups disabled. That is what I do when I surf "Adult entertainment" sites (for research purposes, of course  ) "Use no way as way, have no limitation as limitation." - Bruce Lee
barf
OK the colors are cool. But thats all they are. And for a business that supports a large audience there WRONG!!! If you were serving only an underground scene they might be ok. But from the contents you are not doing that. This is what you should do. Go to AMAZON.com and COPY THE COLORS AND THEME. Might sound gay but I would listen and learn buddy. Which store would you feel better shopping at? Amazon or your store? If your not totally insane you said amazon. Why? Well its the overall package. Easy to look at, wide variety of items, and a name that says it all. And its as simple as this would amazon be who they are today if they had PORNO COLOR themes for there customers? Listen you can either do it like the big boys or keep doing it like an amatuer. The choice is yours. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. DONT FEEL GAY ABOUT RIPPING COLORS AND THEMES ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!!!!!! Loose the cheesey ass pictures and find some good stock too. barf.
