Google Checkout Install Http 500 internal server error

I installed oscommerce awhile back about 6months or less and sts template.

My version is 2.2 RC2

Is this a different version than 2.2 RC2a which is required for google checkout module v1.5.0?

I couldn't find a listing of released versions, but I proceeded anyway.

So I updated the files exactly according to http://code.google.com/p/google-checkout-oscommerce/ using the manual and modified install details.

I then logged into my /catalog/admin and went to payment modules.

Google checkout showed up fine and gave me the option to install. I clicked install and now I get a http 500 internal server error. These are very vague errors and contacting the hosting company to check the logs would be a pain and might not even help.

Has anyone else had this problem? I wanted to go ahead and post it just in case it happened again, but more than likely I will be doing a complete re-install but I didn't want to have to go thru the sts template setup again cause I couldn't quite remember what I did and I know it was a bunch of edits too. So if you know a google checkout module that will work with my version then I'd rather just install it. Please advise.

Ok found a few more posts where people had the same issue with GCO and received no help. Very sad.

I've reverted the files that I updated while installing GCO and it corrected when I changed

catalog/admin/functions/general.php back to it's old version.

So atleast now I know it's something with that file or maybe a file it calls.
