mme Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Hi Before I go live with the store I need to make sure it works properly, and of course get feedback on how to improve things. Feel free to place orders I will wipe them before going live. The Link: http://dutchshophavelocknrth.co.nz/site/shop (its in a code box to avoid Google indexing it) Any suggestions / comments / feedback? Thanks for your replies

Guest Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I suppose it doesn't matter anymore regarding Google indexing it. Any comments /feedback about the shop? Thanks I'll give you a few. Please bear in mind that if you look at my cell site, I already know it's oogly and plain, so please don't feel like it's the pot calling the kettle black. I just depend on that income, so I've been to leary of making changes to a well producing site. Now that, that's out of the way. The site has a very clean look about it, but it seems very "white". It will also brighten up when you get some pix in there. I'm not crazy about the general navigation on the left, and the categories on the right. It felt ackward. Maybe that's just me. I'm not crazy about the order of the general navigation. To me, the first thing should always be SHOP. When you click on some of the pages (i.e., about us) the category listing disappears. Then you have a customer guessing which button to click to get it back. It seem pretty obvious that "shop" would do it, but nothing is obvious to my customers (it seems). About half of the links display the category page. I would be careful about displaying your email in the clear. The spambots are going to get you. Use a form and an encryption (you can get them for free). If you're really motivated use one of the captcha add ons to make sure a real person is filling it out. There is no search I can find. This is the second site today, like this. I feel search is essential so a customer can zero in right on their purchase. Login is not secured yet. I did not go through the whole process. There is no mention of payment methods or secure connections on any of the pages Some of the pages have "css" or "xhtml" links at the bottom. You need to get rid of those. One, the are not germane to your store. Two, one link is broken and the other announces that you have 19 errors on your page. That's all for now. Good Luck.

Hi Thanks for your reply I have considered some of your feedback and made some changes based upon it. Any other suggestions / comments?
mme Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 Any other feedback / comments I would really appreciate it if somebody gave some more feedback about the shop. Thanks
Gazonice Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Hi, On a widescreen monitor the site looks 'sparse' or spread out. I think category nav on the left has become an accepted convention and putting it over to the right makes the site awkward to use inasmuch as I kept looking the wrong way for the categories, but the category navigation itself looks very nice, neat with the search box below. IMO privacy, shipping etc, wants to out of the way of the main selling area of the shop. Garry Garry
