monstermobile
Confused? Ok let me explian I sell mobile phone accessories, and i want to use the manufacturs function so customers can view all accessories for a selected phone model. Now some accessories are specific to a particular phone, but some might be compatable with more than 1 phone. For example, a phone cover might be available for the Nokia 3310, so now when the cutomer chooses Nokia 3310 from the manufacturs list, that cover will show up. But a Charger might be compatable with Nokia 3310 and 5110. So how can i implement a system whereby i can 'tick' which phone models each product is suitable for? And make sure those products appear when that phone is selected from the manufacturs list. Any help is greatly appreicated!
radders
That sounds like a good idea. I haven't seen that done but would also find it useful. Another way of achieving this sort of functionality is to assign a product to more than one category using 'copy' in admin.
monstermobile
I though of doing that, but i have certain products which are compatable with over 20 phones! I cannot copy it 20 times!
Salvo
Hi there, Do I understand correct like this? You have one product (you link it to a manufacturer) the same product (you like to link it to another manufacturer) is that what you mean?
Christian Lescuyer
It can't be done with the current database. It's a 1-n relationship, you would need an n-n. If this seems like gibberish, it means you can have 1 manufacturer per product and n products per manufacturer. This is a simple reference in the products table. To have an n-n relationship you need an intermediate table, like there is for categories. Christian Lescuyer

Salvo
salvo, yes that is exactly what i want. Does anyone have any ideas how i could do this if it cant be done with the current system? Well I have just done it... :-) finished just now... Took me 2 day, But it works ... The admin side is very strait forward, the catalog side a little be complicated.... ( this part took me long time)... The only problem is that the files created can not be used with any other osc because I have changed all around... But I took notes and if you don't mind waiting a few days, I will post how "how to do it"... and it won't take 3 days :-)) Salvo
