live4soccer7
Nick, The button problem is usually caused by trying to upload the images folders in ASCII mode when they should be uploaded in BINARY mode. Most FTP programs auto switch but at high speed, the images are not transferred correctly. I would suggest uploading the images folders again in Binary mode to correct this problem. Chris Thanks Chris. That is actually what my next step was going to be. I will go ahead and post up some more progress when I get it. I'm very excited to have this thing up online. live4soccer7
Well I got rid of the two errors. I changed the two mentioned configure.php files that paul stated to 444 permissions. I then renamed the install directory also. Both errors were gone instantly! I am using godaddy for anyone else who may be reading this topic and has similar questions. live4soccer7
My next question: I have found a template that I really like and would like to apply to the store. I have a folder "osc" that seems it contains all of the folders for an osc store, admin, install, include etc.... and I also have another folder labeled "sources" that includes folders for clipart, html, psd, and fonts. Now it seems obvious as to what I should do for the osc folder. It looks like I will need to delete what I have on my server and do a reinstall for this template, upload the new osc folders and files associated w/the template. I'm not so sure what to do w/the "sources" folder though. Where do I put the folder and/or it's contents?
Guest
Nick, I won't try to persuade you to the usage (or not) of templates. But,... let me give you a couple things to think about. If you use a template system, you will be limited in the help you can get on here. Why? Because with "certain" templates, the coding and structure is changed enough that it is not that easy for most on here to diagnose problems. If you read postings about templates, you will notice a lot of answers to questions that tell the poster to use the template's forum... if they have one. Also, it will be more difficult to adapt contribs (contributions=add-ons)to your templates than to a stock oscommerce that you adapt to a scheme you like. On the other hand. If you really like the look of one you find, then it makes it easier to get the website look you want if you are inexperienced. When I started, I knew nothing about php or shopping carts and no more than you did. But, I also knew I wanted full control over my site, the appearance, behavior, add-ons, etc. not only that, I wanted the "fun" of doing it myself and then being able to take care of all my own maintenance and/or changes. What I would recommend would be based on how much about the php and the mechanics of your store you want to learn. If you like this type of thing, then concentrate on learning how it works. If you see a template or site you like, then you can make yours look similar (without copyright infringement) just by making the changes yourself. It depends on the level of control you want to have over your store, its coding, its appearance, and its behavior. Also, until you learn much much more, you will be needing a lot of forum support here and your support is limited with templates. We have strayed off-topic of your original question. SO you may need to start new threads with your questions or if it is really off topic, pm me and I will help you more. I help at no cost to you!
