adding pdf manual for product

would like to attach a instruction manual for my product in pdf format. may i ask whats the code that i might be needing so that they can download straight from my website? thanks.

Put the PDF in your store download folder and the link is as simple as:

 

<a target="_blank" href="download/file.pdf">Click to download</a>

However, if they click the link it will open in the browser. There is a "Save" button there.

 

The only ways I know to make it download and not open in the browser are to make it a zip file (not pdf) or put instructions by the link telling them to right click on the link and choose "Save target as".

oh yah, just now i was trying to upload my sitemap to the google webmaster, but then it says an error on this particular link. so i click on it and see. indeed, it requested for username and password. i try to go and download the file, and the only way is to right click >save link as just like u said.

I didn't know you had the download folder password protected.

 

If you don't want people to need a password to download it, put it in your catalog folder and the link becomes:

 

<a target="_blank" href="file.pdf">Click to download</a>

They'll still have to <right click> and "Save as", but they won't need a PW.
