How to get customers to type what they want?

Hello to ya'll here. I am brand new to this forum and this program oscomm. I have a questions for you guys that you. You will think that this is elementary but I tried to search on the forum for the answer to my problem and did not find anything so...

 

Here it goes.

I have a web site that I sell personalized items. I need my customers to be able to print in the "options" area of the item what text they would like me to engrave on that particular item. Does any body know how to add this feauture to the control panel and how to use it? Or maybe there is an option like this already in and I just did not find it?

 

Please help.
