Don't Use Siteground for Hosting!

Hello,

A word of advice, DO NOT USE siteground for hosting even though it is recommended somewhere in these forums.

I moved my web site http://www.golf-aid.com in June 2008 as I found that siteground was recommended and I was having speed issues with my hosting company at the time. Golf-Aid.com is Oscommerce based and I paid for a dedicated server for my SSl certificate which I also bought. It took them two days before I had to ask my webmaster to step in and do the changeover properly.

Here is what happened to me:

- they do not charge to move your site but they shouldn't because they screwed it up and I had to pay my webmaster to complete the install

-Within days of their "free" install my site was hacked (defaced) multiple times. I reported the hacks to their support team and they told me it was my web site operating system (really! my site was up to date and secure and had never been hacked until I moved to siteground)

- twice I had them install backups to counter the hack and had to pay for it (you have to pay for everything with these guys). The third time I stopped them from installing a backup and asked for a rerund which was never given as they don't give refunds for "special" requests (apparently installing a backup is special) other hosting companies will do the backup install for free

- for the following 6 months before I moved my site to another host I encountered email errors many times, their server could not handle Mysql queries and would come up with "Mysql has gone away" error messages. I don't know how many sales this cost me but I am not impressed especially at Christmas time.

- their support team is not very good and always I mean always blames something other than their equipment or software

- I am not the only one to experience these problems. My friend also has Oscommerce shops and was the one that actually recommended siteground. He too experienced these same problems and complained and received the same "it's not our fault" response.

- when I closed my account 6 months into a 12 month term that was fully paid for there was a little blurb about no refunds after 30 days. Another bad note, I wrote it off to experience and closed my account and sucked up losing 6 months hosting. Anyother hosting company would have refunded the cash.

- These guys are rip off artists

If you want a secure, well supported hosting then DO NOT USE siteground because they will not provide these requirements.
