BearRiver
Are you using Google Analytics? If so, what are getting most your hits from? Or better yet, where are you showing high in page rank but NOT getting hits from? Or maybe you're just starting out so you don't know the answers to either of those questions. If so, keep your title descriptive! Make sure you front load the most important keywords first, and keep them fairly concise. Also, be sure you keep the names of your files descriptive also. If you were selling apples, you wouldn't want your sales pages to be : sales.php, you'd want something like apples-for-sale.php. Hope this points you in the right direction! Jack_mcs
Hello,Can anyone tell me how many characters to use for: Title: Description: and Keywords: I keep hearing different counts. Is there a general rule? Thanks, Pat The only physical limit is whatever the size of the field for each is. However, the practical limits are much lower. Titles should only be around 60 - 100 characters. The search engines will truncate them if they are too long. Although google, at least, will use longer ones if they are deemed worthwhile. It is better, in my opinion, not to take that chance. Descriptions shouldn't be more than a few sentences. Look at the results in any of the search engines and you will see that is usually the limit. For keywords, a maximum of three is generally all a page can handle. If you can have a lot of text on the page without it affecting your customers, then that number can be higher but that is not usually the case.
