uworlds Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Hello, Is there an option within osCommerce admin somewhere where you can tick some 'Enable SSL' option and then all relevant pages -- like contact us pages with e-mail addresses, or membership signup pages etc. -- are automatically encoded to be https:// ? If pages become encypted, does that mean that other links which point to previous pages starting with http:// need to be re-coded in the HTML to be https:// or can they be left as http:// and they can still be references correctly anyway --- the only thing would be that any of those pages linked to with http:// will just come back as https:// in the Address bar? Just want to understand the benefits of installing SSL as well as understanding the links within site which may change as a result. Cheers, Ted
ricksteruk2005 Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 With OSC it only invokes the SSL when a customer is required to enter personal information, so account creation page, checkout etc. If someone creates a account then the url changes to https:// however once they have created their account if they click on home, then a normal http:// is called. OSC will only invoke the SSL where it is required. You would not need to change anything within OSC once you have it set up for SSL. The benefits of a SSL are very clear, also it helps with customer confidence when using your store. I dont help with templates (thats what the seller is for) th search function will often help, when it dont try this in google. site:http://www.oscommerce.com/forums then your search word

Dr_killer_UK Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I'm not sure what i'm missing but mine won't switch to https for anything. I just had SSL installed by my server admin I do have to say though my normal web is www."name".com but the ssl is installed on https://"name".com so if www. is used it won't load https if that make sence. Not sure if that has some thing to do with it? Any advice would be great as this is my 1st time.
