Uploading osCommerce catalog

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new to the osCommerce forum and I hope this is the correct way to get help with a problem.

I am also COMPLETELY new to the world of eCommerce. I have a new website www.irishartisanjewellery.net and was planning to use Paypal as my shopping cart but now feel this will limit my sales. I decided to go with osCommerce and have downloaded it. I am trying to upload the contents of the catalog folder to my root directory but cannot figure out how to upload a folder AND its contents in one go (eg. admin folder). I am using Vodahost and the browser will only allow me to upload one file at a time and this is creating problems as several of the osCommerce folders have files of the same name. Is there a way to upload the entire folder and contents - maybe I am missing something, help would be really appreciated.

Thanks, Gerri

Can you connect via a FTP programme?

Does your host allow you to upload one file then unpack it for example if you was to make a zip file of the entire install and catalogue of osc and uploaded that do you have a option of unzipping it on your server?

I dont help with templates (thats what the seller is for)

th search function will often help, when it dont try this in google.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply. I am with Vodahost and it doesnt seem to allow me to unzip files after uploading - it requires you to unzip before uploading. I have been thinking and I might have to recreate the folders on my cpanel and upload the files into them one by one - time consuming but hopefully it will work. I also think I need to get a dictionary of tech-speak, even trying to understand instructions is like learning another language for me.

Vodahost permit the use of FTP, FTP is a method of uploading many files all in one go, if you google for FTP client you should find one called filezilla i think it is, this is open source meaning to dont cost you anything to have this programme. Once you have installed it on your pc, start it up and follow the directions on how to use it, it sounds daunting but once you have connected to the server it makes every thing so much quicker and easier

Vodahost should of given you all log in information for your FTP its usually something like this

ftp.yourhost.com

username

password.
