jasyn
so with oscommerce you have the ability to input a shipping address as well as a billing address. lately i've been seeing people committing fraud use the correct billing address, but changing up the shipping address. by inputting the correct billing address, AVS will always match. of course we manually look at all orders and question it, but there has to be something more that we can do to prevent this. we use maxmind, and unfortunately for some fraud attempts it does not mark it as fraud when people use this method. meniscus
I would suggest you require the customer's first order be shipped to the billing address. Once you have a relationship, you can allow the alternate shipping address. Regards, Mark

BearRiver
I've had customers that required a phone number if the shipping address was different than the billing address, would then call the phone number and ask to talk to the card holder to verify the shipping address. They had very little problems.
Guest
Excuse my dunce moment, but where is the problem? My billing and shipping addresses are different, i have things shipped to where i will most likely be, saving myself and the delivery people time on re delivery. Is there something i am missing that may come up in my business?
Jack_mcs
It's a common method with fraudulent orders. A customer places an order and has it shipped to thier friends house. The package is received and the person placing the order files a claim with the credit card company saying their credit card was used without their consent. Since they never received the order, the credit card company will usually grant the chargeback and the shop owner is out of luck. The only time I allow shipping to a different address, except for established customers, is if the shipping address is a verifiable business. That provides a way out if a chargeback is started, though it is not fool-proof.
