Hello,

I was hoping someone could tell me how to access the products and customer information within an osCommerce store?

Where is the password found? I assume it is not just the password for the Web hosting space as that is not working? Is the password encoded in a PHP module somewhere within the osC store?

Many thanks,

Ted

Thanks very much for your reply, how's things in the UK.

Do you know how to re-set the password? I can't remember it, it was set up years ago and the site was offline for a while and how under a new Web host.

Many thanks, Ted

Thanks again for your help. What if the password in configure.php is not working when I try to log in to the /admin area of the site? Sorry to trouble you...

Cheers!!

The password to the Admin section is not in the configure files

Whan you go to your Admin area, does a popup box appear asking for username and password? If so, you need to log into your hosting control panel and set a new password for the password protected directory.

Or, is there an Admin login page asking for username and password? If so, you have an adminstrators table in your database. Log into phpmyadmin and empty it. Now try again (on the login page) and it should ask you to create a new user.

i'm having a similar issue. i just moved a store from 1 server to another. the front-end is working fine but not the admin area. i had to upload a new htpasswd file with the orignal login credentials. it's accepting the credentials but when i get logged in, all i get is a blank white page.

this is what shows up in the error logs:

[Fri Feb 13 12:46:05 2009] [error] [client 69.196.171.245] script '/var/www/vhosts/visioncanadaltd.com/httpdocs/admin/login.php' not found or unable to stat

the first line is looking for admin/login.php. that file wasn't on the old server - not sure why it's looking for it now. is that the problem?

any other suggestions?

Hi Burt,

Thank you, do I go into cpanel under the password protected directories to a page which contains text like this:

/home/[DomainName]/public_html/osc/catalog/admin

Directory requires a password to access via the web (you must check this to activate password protection).

and create the users here? I am way out of my depth on all this. I've tried every combination of username and password stored in configure.php and passwords for the FTP space and can't seem to locate in phpMyAdmin.

Thanks to everyone for your help!

Cheers, Ted

Hi Burt,

I was able to successfully create a username and password for directory /home/[DomainName]/public_html/osc/catalog/admin which lets me access the admin database (orders, customers), which is awesome.

There is a second osc store on the same hosting space, do you know how I would go about assigning a username and password to the home2 directory i.e. /home2/[DomainName]/public_html/osc/catalog/admin as I can't seem to get access to the home2 directory i.e. can not navigate to it.

Thanks for all your help.

Doesn't sound right to have a /home/ and a /home2/

Speak with your host about it.

Hi Burt,

Thanks, I have e-mailed the Web host. Yeh, there's two osc installations within the same hosting space and it seems like one is under home and the other home2. Mind you that seems to be like a "logical" directory assignment as there are no actual physical directories of that name. Confusing. Will let you know outcome. It's weird because it was all working perfectly before the hosting went offline for a while.

Let's hope that no-one finds their configure files.

Let's hope that one day you realise that you are placing these peoples shop ar a risk of being hacked more easily.

It will be interesting to know what your host says about it.

Is there a way to take the password out of those config files so that can't happen even if the config file is found?

Posted

The admin username and password is not in the configure files, so rest easy.

The database username and password is, but it needs to be.

Ahhh thanks Burt for that clarification, great to know!

I really appreciate all your friendly and tremendously helpful and fast assistance.

Ciao, Ted
