Trying to get set up to accept discount and promo codes...

Issue #1: My site allCanes.com isn't set up to accept promo codes or discounts, which I'd like to change moving forward. We currently process all orders in store and when we run a discount or promo, we have people type the information into the 'comments' section during the checkout process. Customers will see the discount on the final printed invoice they receive with the goods, but this obviously causes WAY too much confusion. Especially with new customers who don't know how we run our online business.

 

Is there an osCommerce plug in or something that would allow us to accept a promo code or discount, automatically deducting the discount at the time of purchase? If so, what is it and how would we implement it?

 

 

 

Issue #2: We are getting some backlash from customers regarding shipping charges for gift cards. We don't charge to ship a gift card (if that's all you order), but the system can't tell a $150 gift card from a $150 football jersey, so the same shipping amount is charged. Again, we process all orders in store, so we don't charge to ship the gift card... but again, the customer doesn't know that at the time of purchase. In regards to shipping charges, is there any way to differentiate between a gift card and another big ticket, heavier item? Please advise. Thanks!

2. Ship by weight. Set weight of gift card to zero.

Make sure that a weight of zero has a shipping price of zero

G Burton - Thanks for the reply. I'll look into some of the options regarding discounts and promos.

 

Regarding setting shipping to weight.... how do we do that? I didn't even know the option existed. Sounds like a great idea!
