How to define $searchbox and other $xxx

Hi,

 

I feel a bit dumb, but I looked around and can't seem to get it somehow. I have the latest osCommerce + STS latest and all good and fine. I am just wondering, those $searchbox and similars, where are they defined/declared? I mean, I searched all files and I don't get it, lol. How can I define my own $SpecialUniqueBoxThingie? I am not sure whether this is the correct part of the forum even. I apologize if it's not ^^

Straight example: $searchbox . I don't seem to find out where it is defined. (I never coded a lot php in the past, I am more a c++ dude ^^)
