Zaentzpantz Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I want to design and publish my e-commerce site and have had bashes at it with a proprietary software package. OsCommerce Installation seems to need publishing on my host's server before I can get to design it which I find surprising. Perhaps I'm missing something here, can anyone help? I've not set up databases for the last 15 yrs and got totally lost with the installation instructions. I'm happy with HTML and CSS editing. Can I not install and edit this on my own computer and publish it via ftp when finished?
FIMBLE Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 yes you can, install xampp once installed add the catalog file to your c:\xampp\htdocs folder then set up the database add a user and password then install the package by going to http://localhost/catalog Nic Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post [/url] My Contributions
Zaentzpantz Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 yes you can, install xampp once installed add the catalog file to your c:\xampp\htdocs folder then set up the database add a user and password then install the package by going to http://localhost/catalog Nic Thanks for your help, however I can't find xampp anywhere in my oscommerce folders, and then I'm stuck for what "set up a database" means in this context. My Microsoft Office Access doesn't ask for a password and user information (do you just open a blank database and save it as ****.mdb?). Here's the quick install guide. 1. Create a blank database via your web hosting control panel. However as I can't understand both items in step 1 of the quick install guide either, I think I'll call it a day. Thanks anyway - bye!
airbrushmaster Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 think you will find you have to download xampp off the net
