clustersolutions Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Hello...most of our pages are indexed by Google, and some has good ranking and position in the search engine. However, as some of the products are no longer available, to prevent customers from buying them we basically either deleted them from or made them status = 0 (out of stock) in the database. The default OSC product_info.php doesn't send a 404 header to Google but merely display a product not found page. My questions to the SEO experts are if I would send a 404 header to tell Google to drop those pages from its index would it hurt my home page ranking and searh index in the long run? How are other OSC users dealing with this issue? To send or not to send Google a 404 header? Any comments are greatly appreciated...Thanks! Tim
