abe_rudder
Hi I've created my oscommerce website on a free host called awardspace, although now I want to move the website to a paid host - fasthosts - and I would like to keep the database in awardspace while using it on freehosts because it makes the hosting even more expensive if I move the database there. Is there anyway of doing that? If there is please show me how! Or, if there is another free way to do it I would be pleased to hear it! Thanks a lot, Luke. Guest
you can do this as long as awardspace allows external access to the database server - some hosts do not. You will simply need to set the server address correctly in the configure.php files - though do bear in mind using a database server that is not local to the webserver is likely to significantly slow down your site as the data will be back and forth over the internet (and also will not be secure!) jhande
Luke, If a paid host charges more for having a database as part of your service, I'd keep looking! <_< - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
abe_rudder
thanks for the replies. Jim, do you think I would be able to move from the paid host because I've paid for a year now, but I only paid 3 days ago?

Jim, do you think I would be able to move from the paid host because I've paid for a year now, but I only paid 3 days ago? Hey Luke, If they are a reputable company they should refund 100% of your money. In your defense I would just let them know you need different services than they offer (without going into detail). Or better yet, just tell them someone you know offered you a free dedicated host with support. That should make their jaw drop since they can't convince you they can beat the deal. :P - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -

abe_rudder
I've rang them and emailed them, and they won't refund at all... Anyone that wants to find a good hosting service, don't go with fasthosts.... they will screw you over and there are hidden costs everywhere. ( at my opinion) try to find cheaper 1.67/ month for 600 GB of space. no limit database, free software, FULL acces to your database and file. i think it's a good deal. i don't know how much you pay at the other place but the thing i will do if i'm you. 1st open an account to a new host company, second made a website... you a piece of junk blasting them... maybe they will close your account and refund you.. who knows.. take care and good luck sebastien
