categories Box and background colour

Hi

I like this Modern Template for RC2a v1.0 a lot and would like to change the background of the categories slide out menu but am not sure of what part (description) to change or if it is even in the catalog css stylesheet.

I notice the categories only display on the home page and this seems to be a bit hit and miss also is this how it is?

would appreciate some clarification
