DimensionT Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I've recently installed osCommerce on my website, and I have a little gripe with the info required upon sign up (as do some of my potential customers). As I cannot current afford to but an SSL certificate, people are worried about how secure the shop is. It's not their payment info that they're worried about, because that's done through a PayPal secure gateway. They don't like the fact that they have to enter things such as their full name and street address to create their profile. Most of the required sign up info is not needed for the way I have my shop set up. All of my products are digital downloads, so needing to have their street address doesn't make any sense. I don't need to know their name for the same reason, I'm not going to be writing it on any packing slips. All I really need is an email and password for their account to be set up (these are things not too many people are very worried about giving out). I've talked a bit with a friend that's set up osCommerce numerous times, and he said that you can remove the requirement for gender etc... But the street address as far as he knows needs to be required. Though since osCommerce is open source, there has to be a solution through editing the main files. I have someone capable of helping me with that, I just need the info on what needs to be changed. I'm sure others have come across this problem, so any help would make me extremely grateful. Thanks in advance.
FIMBLE Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 its not a good ides to not have SSL. You could make the address fields hidden and enter an arbitrary value. You will also have to edit all pages where the address shows also. Or you can of course just remove the required parts.
