ken0306
I am want to change my shopping cart system to OSC. However, I can't install the OSC under the current server because current web server is under window server. The old website has been out there for about few years, there are about 1000 people visit the site every day. so what is the best options for me do in order to change the shopping system to OSC ? What I can think about is Option 1. using another domain and keep the current site running, and redirect the traffic to the new website for 3 months. close the old site after 3 months Option 2. Close the current website, for few days and transfer the domain to other server and reopen it. Please give me some suggestions, and what people normally do when they want to change the web server. thank you ken
Jack_mcs
Changing the domain name would be a mistake, unless you don't want the new site associated with it. All you need do is open your new hosting account while keeping the old one active. Copy your files and database to the new server and setup the shop. It can be tested with the IP. Once it is all setup, tansfer your domain name from the old server to the new. Web surfers will never know the site has been moved. Jack_mcs
If you have a private ssl certificate, you just need the files for it. It can then be installed on the new server. It won't work until the domain name is re-pointed but that is not a problem. Your new host should be helping you with this, as well as the move. If they aren't, then you may want to consider a different, new host. lindsayanng
I agree with Jack.. if your NEW host isnt trying to make your move to them as easy as possible, you REALLY should get a new host.. I mean, you want someone who wants your business right?> I have sucessfully moved TWO websites that were live frm one server to another.. the only issue i had with one was loosing emails, but i got them back A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP.
