Tax Issue

Hi all

Ok, i'm really new to this

I am using servage hosting which offers 2.2 RC1

I am using a template and am now on osCommerce 2.2-MS2

Anyhow, I have my tax Zones, Tax Class and Tax Rates assigned

I then go an add a product and set its tax class

2 Odd things happening

When I set the tax class to the product, and I set the net cost say, 443.00 it sets the gross to something like 812, very odd

This I can deal with as I only care that the site charges customers properly.

here is where the second issue is

The taxes are not showing up on the cart.

I really need some advice on this one as we want to run with this software come end of this coming week but I really need the ability to charge taxes.

We are not assigning taxes to the base, we want to show as a different line item, also, even if we bind the taxes to the cost, it still doesn't calculate.

Thanks

james

It would appear, as long as the template has not screwed it up, that you have several tax rates being applied to the product.

To show prices including taxes

Shop Admin >> Conficuration >> My Shop >> Show prices .....

To show taxes in the checkout

Shop Admin >> Modules >> Order Totals

Set up a product so you are selling it at 100.00.

Remove all taxes, check prices.

Add some back in and try to identify what you have got wrong.

REmove all taxes

Ok, I went through and here is exactly what I have

I have a tax zones called

Canada - Alberta

Canada - Nova Scotia

Canada - New Brunswick

Canada - Ontario

I then have a Tax Call called Taxable Goods

under Tax Rates I have the following

Priority = All 1

Tax Class = All set to Taxable Goods

Tax Zone: As listed above in that order

Tax Rate

Alberta - 5%

Nova Scotia 13%

New Brunswick 13%

Ontario 5%

Now, I go under the Item under the catalog area in admin and I edit my item

I set the Net to 100

It is setting the Gross to 136 which is caused by it adding 5%+5%+13%+13% = 36

This is very odd to why it would do this. why would gross be adding up the taxes in this area as the taxes would be based on the users location when buying the item.

Basically, I think the item table should have something like this

My Cost: 80

Sell Price: 100

Profit: 20

This way, I can track my costs.

Sorry, I'm learning this so there is possibly some items I don't understand. I am sure this is all done for a reason, but I'm confused on this Net / Gross issue i'm seeing

Pesonally I'd have words with your politicians and get them to simplify the tax system.

:-)

One of the Canadian based users might be more familiar with this set up.

In configuration >> My Store, what zone is the store located?

I think you must be very confused with the tax setup in the system, I also confused at the beginning.

here is the osCommerce Knowledge Base for Tax Proposal, read though this will help you understand how to setup the tax.

http://www.oscommerce.info/kb/osCommerce/D...plementations/5

So, in your case you will need to setup 2 tax class in order to let the shopping calculate the right amount of the tax. Because Canada has GST and PST. If the shipping address is in your province, the product will apply two tax class (GST + PST). if the shipping address is not in your province, the goods will be only apply one tax. (GST). If the shipping address is not in Canada, the goods will not be apply Tax.

The other issues you need to look at is the product you selling, are they all charge full tax or some items only GST even people purchase it within the province. The tax setup will be difference.
