DennisJones Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I am having a problem with Product Attributes. I want to be able to sell an item which can have some or none of several different optional extras all of which have different prices. So if the product is A and options are B,C D then I might get an order for A alone or A+B, A+C, A+B+C, A+C+D etc. unless I am missing something (and it is getting late) I have to set up a number of null options for A alone ie A without B, at normal price A without C, at normal price A without D, at normal price A + B at option price A + C at option price A + D at option price This gives me three drop down boxes when viewing the product in the catalog Is there some trick that I am missing? It seems a long winded route if you have lots of options. Thanks
♥kymation Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 It's a bit easier than that. Set up option values for -=none=-, Option B at $price difference, Option C at $price difference, etc. Then you can attach those option values to Product A, and any other product those values apply to. The $price difference will be added to the base price of the product when selected. Regards Jim See my profile for a list of my addons and ways to get support.
DennisJones Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 Sorry I am a bit confused , is <=none= > a reserved word? I can't see how I can associate a null option value across all products such that it appears in each drop down box please have a look at http://www.purbecksporting.com/confused.htm and see if you can get me thinking straight Thanks Dennis
♥kymation Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Yes, you need to give the option a value of "none" and assign it a cost of $0 (the default.) You can do this for any option for any product that you need to sell without that option. So you can (for example) have three entries for the option loading ramps, with the values 8 foot, 6 foot, and none. Those three options can then be added to any product that can have the option of loading ramps. Regards Jim See my profile for a list of my addons and ways to get support.
DennisJones Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 Thanks for your help, I understand the model now. However one further question, putting loading ramps with 6 foot, 8 foot and none produces a drop down box with the 6 foot option as the default, clearly I need the "none" option as the default. I have tried changing the order of the IDs but to no avail, it all seems a bit random. Any suggestions? Many Thanks Dennis
♥kymation Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Oops, I forgot about that. It seems to put the options in the order they were added. It's a database issue. There are ways around it, but the easiest is to add the options in the order you want them to appear. You may need to delete all the values for that particular option and then re-add them.
