Add to cart gives me empty cart message w/no ssl

Having an odd problem - sounds like cookies/sessions - config problem, but can't seem to get my head around this.

Searched quite a bit and found similar problems, but almost all were ssl related. I'm not using SSL, don't have it turned on yet. So that bounces that out.

 

if I click to add an item to my cart, the result is an "empty cart" screen.

In addition, if I try to login, I just keep getting a refreshed login screen.

 

Can't help but think they are related.

 

Any insight is greatly appreciated. Can't seem to get past this curveball...
