Just my opinion...

but I would say (emphatically) no!

The site you referenced has very little, other than the products themselves and a change in the main page text, to distinguish it from the stock osC distribution.

Andy,

Rather than post a store that you feel may be violating the GPL , it would be better to privately alert one of the developers.

Thanks for that Kim , I understand why you say that but there was a reason apart from I would have no sympathy if that was what was concerned about :)

It is at least a way of getting a definitive way of 1. Knowing myself (which I could have achieved by contacing a developer) but also 2. Of showing others who may be in the same dilema what is not considered altered enough.

It is one area I have looked at, as I have seen many not even altered as much as that one I posted, that has no copyrite, and have often wondered. Given that you suggest contacting a developer I suppose that is one way I could have been sure for myself, and that is post my own URL when it is altered to my liking and ask if it does indeed fit with their opinion. But does not make it clear to a new would be user what is acceptable.

I suppose it could be taken one step further and be a condition that before you remove the copyrite you MUST get a developer or authorised person to mail you with the go ahead to remove that copyrite. A discussion point for the future I suppose

I am surprised more people have not commented on their opionion but I suppose they are less likely if they see a few messages saying it does not comply and theirs is like that also...........they might well be rushing of to alter a few more things. Either way we get some more extreme OS stores on view :P

Why should a website that has been altered in every way still have the right to remove the OSC credits? There is no justifiable reason to remove the credit from a community that gives so much. Edit it, encourage it, but dont remove it.

Because the shop owner has the freedom to do so. Please read our FAQ entry about this very issue:

Thanks for the compliments, but after a long discussion we have chosen to go the road described in the FAQ entry. This will not change. But ofcourse we always like it when the catalog part says "powered by osCommerce" ;-)

I realise that Jan, maybe 'right' wasnt the correct word. I wasnt referring to the legitamacy of removing the credits, it was more a moral objection. I'll try to be clearer next time :)

Just ticks me off is all! I am currently building a very very very modified version of OSC, and i have specifically built an oscommerce 'button' into my interface, in exactly the same format as i have my very own design company's "free plug". I feel this is the least i (or anyone else for that matter) can do...

Regards, Jay.
