Image problems on new install

New install.

Although image place holders seem to be the proper size, essentially ALL images, from item images to store logos seem to be vertically compressed; bottom of buttons are "torn" away, and some images (like the store logo, that I assume somes with the OSCOMMERCE logo) are not showing at all; some images (products, icons, etc.) are showing but just compressed veritically to be unrecogizable.

I have followed directions in the user manual regarding image problems that says to make sure the right directory path exists for the stylesheet.css.

I have modified this stylesheet.css, such as resetting the body background color, and that all works, ie, the modified stylesheet.css IS picked up and the body background color is reset to my color settings,

so, I don't think a directory problem in pointing to the stylesheet.css is the explanation for the image problem.

Ah, you're probably right, I will try that.

On all other web sites I have put up, I always FTP transferred EVERYTHING (including .php files) in binary mode, and have never had any problems;

but, there was a statement in the OSCOMMERCE docs that .php files needed to be transferred in ASCII, so I FTP'd the WHOLE shebang (un zipped catalog folder) to the server in ASCII.

Many thanks !!!

Uploaded the whole image folder in binary, now it looks ALOT better. :o :rolleyes:

I use FTP Voyager, mainly because I started using it years ago and am familiar and comfortable with it;

it also has an automatic mode, but I never used it since I never had a problem just using binary all the time,

I've never had files (.php or otherwise) messed up with binary mode using FTP Voyager,

but guess I'll have to start using the automatic mode in it now.

Thanks again for the help !!!

Hi, this thread helped a lot with my image problems with my new installation; however I have one more visual problem, some of my buttons show half way only or distorted....but I got all the other images to show and appear correctly, any other suggestions on this? Thank you in advance

For anyone else who makes the same mistake:

Also had to re-upload using automatic mode, the following since there were still some buttons (continue, review, add to cart, etc.) that were still messed up from ASCII upload:

/catalog/includes/languages/ (everything in the languages folder, ie, english, espanol, german)

I'll get this right yet.

In addition to ALL the FTP reloads in binary mentioned so far, ALSO (hope this is it)

/catalog/admin/images (for the images on administration panels)

Pics should be binary, other files ascii.
