seolman
Hello to all. I must say right up front I am not an OS Commerce user (but I used to be several years ago). I have a client who is an OSCommerce user and I am about to embark on a long and tedious SEO project for this client. They are using OSCommerce but have no SEO plugin. I am (dangerously) assuming they have at least 2.1 (getting version data now). I'm asking the OSCommerce gurus on this forum if they have used any of the SEO plugins now available for OS Commerce - if so, which ones they find the best in terms of: 1) ease of integration 2) usability From my perspective the most important items would be ability to control page titles and metas on a page by page basis. If such a thing exists it would be a great help if someone could point me in the right direction. I'm not sure if image uploads also have "alt" attribute controls or not but I may be able to deal with that in the code (ugh - not that I want to). Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction and I apologize for my first post not being contributory. For what it's worth I plan to hang around and contribute to the SEO side where I may. Thanks again for any support you can offer.
rs2k
You'll want to use, at the very least, Ultimate SEO URLS: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2823 and Header Tags: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/5851 And you should also use: Independent URL Validation: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/5738 to prevent duplicate content caused by Ultimate SEO URLs
seolman
Thanks for the reply Kalyn. I probably won't do much with the URL's right now simply because of al the redirects I would have to do with the .htaccess (likely a round 2 item). This iste has thousands of pages and I don't want to play with any 301's right now. But thank you very much for the feedback. Much appreciated. rs2k
You don't have to worry about setting up 301 redirects, ultimate seo urls will do that automatically. If you enable USEO and browse to www.storeurl.com/product_info.php?products_id=21 it will 301 redirect you to www.storeurl.com/product-name-p-21.html if you have redirects enabled in the USEO options. WOW - what a nice tool. Thanks for the info. I'll check these out. I now know the client has version 2.2 so I'll start reviewing these modules and seeing what is involved in installing them. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out.
