soundjam
Good evening everyone, I have spent long hours on this website, much like yourselves on your own sites. And, would appreciate any constructive critisizm before I fianally go live with it. If you have any suggestions to any contributions that would make my site stand out from the crowd. Also, if there is anyone out there that has the ability to check for any security issues. Any/All help with this would be fantastic. What I still have to do: set up the meta tags (anyone know the best contrib for this?) enter weights and dimensions for products (in order for Canada post to give correct shipping prices) Visit My Website Thank you all, Brian

starcarlton
looks ok - you should change the stock buttons and images to something better - I don't really like the orange color behind the cheese grater thing - but good job on your site. Quite accidently I see all this neat stuff about The Nailer off to the side in the left. Move that into your product page. Also realized accidentally, that the large picture is not actually your product picture. Your product is that little itty bitty pic up in the right hand corner. That's for several products that I looked at. You don't really need the small pic with enlarge when you have same pic already very large in your additional pictures. Other product pictures are set willy nilly, there's no set style to them at all. IMO, you really need to work on your product_info pages. They are not set up well this way. You have to give the pertinent info to the customer right away, not just in words but more importantly. visually. As far as design, it's just stock Osc with a new header. Kind of blah. This is all said as constructive criticism, please don't be insulted. I would like to see your store look nicer.

lindsayanng
personally, i think it looks like stock oscomemrce with some graphic borders to fancy boxes.. Everything else is thesame I think you should put some time and effort into the look of your site. Do some market research. What are other companies online that are selling the same thing as you? I mean, you are competing with HOME DEPOT AND LOWES!!! I think that you need to remove the PRODUCT POINTS OF INTEREST. it is confusing, and just on clicking the nailer FIND A DEALER, you managed to convince me to go to a local dealer to buy the item imight have purchased on your site to avoid shipping. It also just looks confusing. What is a point of interest? If you ask me, it is too much unnessecary information that is located in prime realestate. You should make the box lower and less eye catching, make it like a basic categories box but call it something like BUILDERS BLOCK and make it like a bob vila type HOW TO USE IT or DIY article list. You have too many colors that do not match. THe blue and the red should go in replace of colors that match your logo.. same with the box borders. That grey/metalic look doesnt match your site Your product_listing page looks dull. THERES NO BUY NOW!! what if i just wanted to go down the list and buy a bunch of supplies from the same category. I would have to click on each one, then add to cart, then go back and do the same.. i would imagine people might buy lots of items fromt he same category.. make it easy You have the stock oscommerce buttons. Do those match your site?? It hink you are working along and doing stuff, but you arent doing the right stuff. Think in DESIGN MODE. Make everything flow, then add the "extras" later if you must.. but get a LOOK first... A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. soundjam
Hi Lindsay, Thank you very much for your input. I like your idea with the builders block part for diy stuff etc. for the one box I am a man,, and colours for me,, don't match,,, :). definately could use help with that part... Although, there are a few things I should mention as a reply. I have inserted where people can locate The Nailer, because I am distributing to them. So, to me it makes sense and the other thing is,,, you mentioned the product listing page has no "buy now" buttons. It is unfortunate, but I have been more or less forced to do it this way,, especially when it comes to the sale of the leather tool belts and pouches.. There are too many attributes that the customers really need to see the description of the pages in order to get their order right. I don't know if you have some insight into how to solve that issue,, I'm stuck. I can't possibly have upto 5 duplicate entries because of colour and with or without lined pockets, and with steel loops or leather loops.. I will do more market research.. for sure,, and you're right,, I have spent a long time on this site,,, but maybe a long time on the wrong things... Thank you for your reply,, Greatly appreciated, Brian
lindsayanng
you dont NEED to be forced to do it that way.. when you have the BUY NOW, if there are attributes that NEED to be chosen, osc automatically reverts the customer to the product_info page, but for those that WANT the buy now for other objects, its better to have it there than not. And yea, you REALLY should look into making the LOOK flow a little better. I understand that you are a man, and i know its hard for you men to get a grasp of colors (kidding-kinda) but you have to. I mean, ESPECIALLY now, you need to be competitve and a good looking site gets the sales ALL the time. A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP. soundjam
Thanks Lindsay,, I thought that I tried the buy now buttons before,, and it didn't revert me back to the page with the attributes,, that's initially why I turned it off.. Although, just now I've turned it back on,, and it's working as you said it would.. Brian
soundjam
BTW, any colour combinations that you can suggest,,, since you are a woman Cheers, Brian
lindsayanng
Just stick with all the colors you have in your header. Make the grey/metalic box outlines more greenish (if you even wantto keep them, personally i dont lke them) and DO NOT use red and blue/ They just remind me of tacky 90s websites. Use a really DARK green where you have the bold black, red or the bold blue text, and use a lighter green for hover links. Get rid of the LETS SEE WHAT WE HAVE HERE in every category, and instead of the little clip art graphics like the arm holding the hammer, create an nice looking graphic with your colors that match you top banner. lindsayanng
I think that centering your site for a fixed width would make it look nicer too A great place for newbies to start Road Map to oscommerce File Structure DO NOT PM ME FOR HELP.
