Download the latest version and copy the index.php file over

I did as you said and now I get this:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Ya I did quite a bit of custom work on it, so re-installing the whole thing would be quite a pain.

its an internal error, i am thinking some code misplaced, so you only replaced your index.php with a new one right...nothing else has changed, do you have a copy of your old php file?? if so replace it back and see if what error you get...or better do a file comparison

go to your hosting control panel and try to read the error from its log file, or a solution is make a backup of your work and reinstall oscommerce
