Adding Products with Different Sizes/Colors with different SKU numbers/quantities for each variation

Hello, I would think that this is something that either osCommerce or one of the available modules should be able to handle, but so far we haven't found the right solution. Go here to see this new site we've constructed for a place that sells primarily soccer shoes:

http://planetsocceronline.com/draft/

Links to the osCommerce catalog are at the top. For this example, let's click on "Footwear" and "Hard Ground and Turf" under the drop down. Click on the "Adidas Copa Mundial" shoe at the top. Note that we were able to use a module that allows different size shoes to be selected from a drop down; however, there seems to be no way to attach a UPC to that specific shoe. The client has a UPC scanner in his store that interacts with osCommerce pretty well ... however, it posts the UPC number to the "Product Model" field .... we would like this to post to a separate/unique UPC field for inventory tracking. Here's one reason why:

The way the store is currently setup, osCommerce let's you put a total inventory quantity for any particular item, all varieties included. For example, on the "Adidas Copa Mundial" product above, osCommerce, at least the way we currently have it setup, let's you set a total quantity of say 15 for all "Adidas Copa Mundial" shoes. The problem is that you can't specify which specific size and color get's which quantity ... like 3 black shoes in size 8, 2 red shoes in size 9, etc .... it just let's you say 15 total available. The problem is if someone comes to the site and orders 12 black shoes in size 8, osCommerce let's that order go through because there are a total of 15 "Adidas Copa Mundial" shoes .... the application just doesn't know that are only 3 black shoes in size 8.

Why not just assign UPC codes to each variety of shoe? Like the "Adidas Copa Mundial" .... black size 8 gets one UPC, red size 9 gets another UPC, etc.? Because then all of the "Adidas Copa Mundial" show up as separate items and the client would obviously like them to all appear together so a customer can choose to order a black or a red or a size 8 or a size 9 from a single page.

So .... here is my query: is there a module or a way to program osCommerce so that each shoe with a specific Product Model will appear on a single page with drop downs for choices of size and color, but also so specific quantities and SKU numbers are attached to those size and color choices. It seems to me that this must be a fairly common request for e-commerce in general so I would think there must be a solution that osCommerce will handle. Would a module like QTPro handle these tasks?

I humbly submit my request ... hopefully someone a whole lot smarter than me with osCommerce has a great solution for me and my client. THANKS!
