Dabitz Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Hi guys, thanks again for this great piece of code... May I ask for your advice on which payment options I can use other than Paypal if I don't want to have to pay a monthly fee and just pay commisions based on sales? To be honest, this is the first online store I do and I am so glad I found your product. I am working on customizing it the most that I can. Also, I keep getting the message that graph directory isn't writtable when I try to do the banners thing. I chmod to 777 several times, adding new products works fine so I really don't know what it is. I can't figure it out. I tried uploading via the banner manager page, I also tried ftp'ing the image first and then telling the location of the banner. Doesn't work either. If by any chance you might have an idea of what is wrong please let me know... v2.2
Dabitz Posted January 27, 2003 Author Posted January 27, 2003 This forum settings doesn't allow you to edit your messages. I just wanted to say that I did downloaded the manual, it doesn't talk about banners... Take care...
rseigel Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 2checkout is a step or 20 above and beyond Paypal (and a whole lot more professional IMHO). $49 (or is it $59?) setup fee and then just a per transaction and percentage for every transaction after. No monthly fees. Good thing about it is you can transfer it from one site to another so if site #1 justifies a real merchant account down the road you can then use it for site #2. Rinse. Repeat.
burt Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Agree with Ron, 2checkout is an OK (and cheap) solution for North America based users. If you have a bank account anywhere else in the world, it will work out expensive unless you are selling high margin goods... hth
Dabitz Posted January 27, 2003 Author Posted January 27, 2003 Thanks for the advice. I took a look at their website but it looked a little expensive to me. Not because of the signup fee but because of the 5.5% transaction fee. I believe paypal is about half that amount. Still wondering what is going wrong with my banners...
wizardsandwars Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 PayPal is about 1/2 of what 2checkout or any merchant account costs, however, if PayPal is your ONLY payment method you offer, I htink that you will find you will lose roughly 40 - 60 % of your sales. Trust me. I learned this the hard way. You'll the that the 2checkout page (assuming you use their SSL) is much more customizable, as are "payment requests 2checkout charges 5.5% because they don't charge a montly fee, as all Merchat accounts do. I found that 2checkout is cheaper than a merchant account with an average purchase of $40, if I do 40 salesor less a month. Once I hit that threshold, it bacame cheaper to use a merchant account. You won't find another payment method as cheap as paypal, though, that's for sure. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit.
