How to keep customers permanently logged in (increase session duration via cookie)?

Hi,

 

I have a CREloaded site (which i'm told is the same code-base as OSC) installed - how do i extend the session time, so that once customers sign up, they are permanently logged in (or logged in for 1year or so)? The next time they visit, the site recognizes them and doesn't require them to logon.

 

Can this be set either in the config files or in the PHP config files? Please advise
