grlwrtr Posted January 26, 2003 Posted January 26, 2003 My snapshot is v 2.2 dated 12/31/2002. I have installed the mod BigImage 1.23a. I have also installed the code from GZIP Compression v1.0. It is not speeding the OSC site up. I am working on Win 98 in a FoxServ environment. Anybody have any ideas?
TB Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Which gZip mod are you refering to? There are that I know of... one for compressing/uncompressing your databases when using the Admin >> Backup feature. The other, which modifies application_top.php. I run Windows 2000 and I haven't been able to get it running on my local machine, though it DEFINATLY does make a difference to the pages which are loaded from my Linux webserver. Hope this helps, Tony "The price of success is perseverance. The price of failure comes much cheaper."
grlwrtr Posted January 28, 2003 Author Posted January 28, 2003 The mod I'm using that doesn't work in Win 98 local development is the one that modifies the application_top.php files in both admin and catalog. I will try the other method you suggested. Thank you for your help.
Christian Lescuyer Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Does gzip_mod work in other servers than Apache? Christian Lescuyer
Guest Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 I tried this mod under linux/apache. I always get a blank page, if i try to load it with netscape7/mozilla1.2. I think, that Apache must be compiled with gzip-compression possibility. I don't think, if any other server, than apache is capable for gzip compression. Please correct me, if I am wrong. schawo
TB Posted February 24, 2003 Posted February 24, 2003 A very easy way to get osC working under windows is by downloading FoxServ. It's a complete Apache, mySql, PHP package. As an added bonus, it is configured with gZip support. It makes a very good base for testing locally before uploading to your web server. Website: www.foxserv.net If you know how to install Apache, mySQL and PHP this package may be of no use to you, otherwise it's really good for beginners. Hope this helps, Tony "The price of success is perseverance. The price of failure comes much cheaper."
Harald Ponce de Leon Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 GZip compression is implemented in CVS - please check the Administration Tool -> Configuration -> GZip Compression settings. It will only work when PHP is compiled with the zlib library (--with-zlib) otherwise it won't do anything. , osCommerce
