Can products be retained when applying a new layout and search facility?

We are having a 'makeover' of our osCommerce store including the addition of a Filtered Search Tool whereby users can search by 'Manufacture' as well as 'Model'. We have already populated the store with a number of products. Do you know whether we will have to re-input these products or will they be retained when the new layout and search tool are applied?
