function to automatically activate/deactivate special product status by date/time

hello,

does anybody knows how the specials expiring status work? where can i find the function that alters the status of a special product?

 

by default, oscommerce can let u specify a date when the product special status will become inactive... but i want to create an intro point as well...

 

for example i would like to add a product as special today, at 12:00 AM for example, but only become active at 14:00.... and then become inactive at 16:00 again...

 

if anybody knows what function is needed to call the expiring date, then it will be the same for the activation date... or so i believe... any suggestions are welcomed!
