Guest
I think I'm about 95% done with my store. I would appreciate feedback, especially with regards to load time, ease of checking out (I have the Amazon log in & PWA). You can do a test order if you are so inclined, just choose check or paypal as your payment method (& let me know it's a test order). My biggest hurdle has been product_info.php. I have so many contributions that it's been difficult to get it look nice, I think I've finally accomplished that by actually using 3 different product_info's with an if statement depending on category. The look is satisfactory, but still not making me 100% happy. Any suggestions or comment on my product_info pages would be great too. tastar
OK - nice site - it seems to be very complex in terms of functionality, but in a very good way. I like the if statement for product_info - cool idea. It seems like you have a ton of products, so I really don't have a clue about how you can keep track of them - especially with different configurations for different categories. But, you've done such a nice job defining and handling the complexity that I'm guessing that you'll make it work. Your images are really nice - although some of them are too big - I opened one that was 1152 x 864 pixels - wider than your site and taller than my 900 pixel high screen. It took a while to find the close button that was hidden below the bottom of the screen. It confused me for a little bit, and would probably confuse others as well. The "Ask a question about this product" phrase seems to be hidden on the page - and, it's not obvious that it is a link. Maybe a graphic defining it would be helpful to make it look like a distinct and clickable element. I haven't seen blinking text on a web site in a while - that would make it pop (just joking). The best sellers box should have a link to best sellers in the box heading - assuming that you want to have people see your best sellers without refreshing the page a bunch of times. Your header tags don't list the name of the item that is being viewed in the page title or browsing history and should. Your contact us page should probably list your address and phone info - I finally found it in the footer, but I think that people expect to find it on the contact page as well. The search box is at the bottom of the site - I'm not sure what people would search for since your stuff isn't brand name searchable - but search is almost always at the top of a site. The Wedding Ideas link in the header goes to your blog - but it doesn't open a new window - it just leaves the site. It (and the blog) should have a nice big link back to the main site. The blog does look like it fits in well with the site. Nice visual integration. And, I guess that you know that a couple of the header links go to index.php rather than to the correct destination (registry and newsletter). Your header takes up a lot of room - about 360 pixels. That's a lot of static space - about 420 pixels of my 900 pixel area when you include my Firefox header. That leaves about 390 pixels on my screen for the stuff that you are trying to sell. The header is really nice, but it takes up too much of your visible area. The category listings - when you click on a category like Practical Favors - should probably have images associated with them. There's a contribution that pulls a random image from each category that you could use to do this without defining a bunch of images. Oh, and please don't say that this is your first web site. It really is great! Good luck. tony

There's some things that I am working on, like those too large images & the links but some others I hadn't thought about like the search box being at the bottom of the page. Hmmm...maybe I should move it up a bit. And do something with Ask a Question to make it more obvious...without blinking :D Not my first web site, but it is my first Osc store :)
