MNUser
Thanks Germ for the help. I scanned through the tips. I think my vision was becoming blurry by then and I missed it. Is it possible for there to be TWO catalogs with separate categories? Here is why. Say you were selling two completely different groups of items. You click on one item and see it's catalog with it's categories and then other is not visible. Kinda like having two stores being run by the same store. Make sense???? Sometimes I confuse myself. Thanks! PS. Last question for a while....promise!
germ
You don't need two catalogs. Just setup the existing one with two main categories. Say you're selling ear muffs and hand grenades. You have two main categories (ear muffs and hand grenades) and sub-categories under them. Now it's the "hide one when in the other" that I don't know how to do. I'd hazard a guess that it's possible and probably not that difficult, I just don't remember seeing it. If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. designsjohn
I don't know if it works or not: click me If you have 2 catalogs, would you have to have 2 security certificates, obviously yes if you have them on 2 different url's? I have 2 other catalogs that I dont use and they are in different URL's (located in control panel/click oscommerce/window "edit oscommerce"/click ADMIN in the domain of choice ie list of url's). I did not use them due to the fact that I would have to have 2 or 3 security certificates or one for each. So I guess my question is ,"can you have 2 catalogs in the same url? (I am not a coder or programmer, some how I got my 8 url's going to my one catalog and I am doing business, but it took a long time and the community was a big help)
Jack_mcs
I'm confused by the use of "catalogs" in both of these questions. If you want to have two separate lines of products under different domain names, then you should setup two shops, in my opinion. There is a mult-store cotribution but that will cause problems later on with code changes. If you want to offer two lines of products in the same shop, you need to determine what it takes to allow one or the other to be seen. There is the Hide Categories contribution but you would need to know when to hide them. As for having two catelogs in the same url, again, if you mean two shops, that can be done using sub-directories but it is a tacky way to do it. It is best to setup them up as separate shops with their own urls. That can all be done in one hosting account as long as your hosting plan allows it. Guest
I don't think the "two main categories" is tacky. Actually, that is a VERY safe and easy peasy way to do things. The only problem with that I see would be your random products showing up with items from BOTH categories. If you wanted them to be separate or just one or the other, might have to do a lot to achieve that. Dunno, Im still quite the novice and I look for the straightforward and simple. Im adding tangibles to my digitals now and that is how Im going to do it. They are already divided into categories for the scrapbooking designs and the quilted items will have a category of their own with subs underneath. The name of the shop will remain the same but it does coincide with both types of products. Chelle
Jack_mcs
I didn't say two categories, I said two shops. meaning one shop would be at http://my_main_shop.com while the other would be at http://my_main_shop.com/my_other_shop/ Jack Support Links: For Hire: Contact me for anything you need help with for your shop: upgrading, hosting, repairs, code written, etc. All of My Addons Get the latest versions of my addons Recommended SEO Addons
