Guest
Is this another liar?? This lady ordered some stuff today and all looks good, nothing weird, just some earrings and a necklace, but then she emails me and tells me her Paypal address is an old one and to ship it to a different address. Sadly, I don't get that many orders  so this seems odd to me. But I believe that's a big red flag isn't it? If the addresses don't match? She paid through Paypal. Also, the email addy on the order is from gmail, but when she replied to tell me about the shipping address, it's from an email that ends in "mac.com". I use different email addresses too, but I'm scared of everyone. I'm wondering if calling my store "steel s*mething" is just a challenge to some criminals. I thought it was a funny clever name at the time... <_< So should I ship it and cross my fingers? What can she do to me? Just reverse the charge I guess, or will it get worse than that? Thanks for any advice... Nicole @Germ - I read that people are abandoning ponies down there... What the hell? Not you though. RIGHT?! Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! WoodsWalker
Hi Nicole! Sorry it took me so long to reply - I was on holiday, and then I got food poisoning!  What's all this about abandoning ponies? Why abandon them when they're such good eatin'. (no wonder I got food poisoning with my attitude). Regarding your question, you are afraid this lady is another Bad Mcgraw? Hmmm, hard to say. She has some red flags, but they're not bright red. I don't use PayPal, but I know it used to be felt that PayPal was more secure for the merchant, as chargebacks were "impossible". But this is not so: I have heard that PayPal can levy chargebacks against a merchant if a charge is disputed. And this, as far as I know, is the worst that can happen - that the lady has somehow bogarted someone else's PayPal account, and when the real owner shows up and complains, PayPal will take the $$$ back from you. Whether to proceed or not is your call. If the dollar amount is not huge, I myself might go ahead. Is there any other verification you can do, like phoning the customer? I guess since you posted on Dec. 31, you must have proceeded or not proceeded by now. Let us know what'cha did. Happy New Year! ~Wendy
Guest
Hey Wendy, Happy New Year to you too! Food poisoning? You poor thing. I hear that's one of the worst things! Re: my new Bad Mcgraw, I already sent it, and it was received and nothing bad has happened yet. I will try to stop suspecting everyone of evil-doing. (But if there is evil-doing in the future I'll let you know) Re: the pony, Germ helped me with a ton of stuff so I sent him a nice pony as a thank you gift , then read somewhere that people were abandoning ponies all over the place for some reason, so I had to ask... 'Cause that's even WORSE than re-gifting. He assured me the pony is alive and well, although messier than he anticipated. (No he didn't! I just read his post again... haaa!) The abandoners of ponies must not share your culinary skills and/or experiences... ;) Cheers, Nicole

Guest
I dunno, but I'm curious to read it... Share recipes? Condemn us for the tasteless (no pun intended) joke? Mention that this isn't a pony forum? :P
WoodsWalker
I think the food poisoning came from a dubious hot dog that I bought in a location much further north than hot dogs naturally grow. I should know better at my age. I was joking about the ponies - I haven't tasted one, although I've had moose and it was lovely. Really! Must go eat now... ~Wendy

Whenever I have a discrepancy between email & paypal accounts, I always include a disclaimer indicating that "The order will not ship until I receive address confirmation from the address attached to the PayPal account". I have however received "attempted scams" which smell bad from the beginning. One such attempt started out with someone placing a LARGE order $500+, then closing the window when PayPal launches. Then they sent me an email asking if they could "Overpay" me $200 in PayPal so it gets charged to their credit card, and I could refund them the difference in a check so they do not have to pay their credit card the extra charges for a cash advance. The address given was Overseas so it is difficult to prosecute. They try to temp you with a large sale, and hope you put your guard down. I replied "NO" and informed them that "Although the order would be nice, it is not only unethical, it sounds illegal". "Feel free to continue with your purchase for the Correct Amount, after email confirmations with your registered Paypal email, your order will ship out as normal . Unfortunately due to the recent span of Credit Card fraud, if you try to overpay or send additional funds, it will leave me no choice but to contact PayPal, Your Bank and the local Police department and submit your contact information for Investigation". Not surprising, I never heard from them and when I went to check their address & contact information, it was changed to garbled type and all zero's for the phone number. Yes- they are everywhere, trying to steal from honest, hardworking people. The best defense is a good offense. Educate yourself and yes - it is unfortunate and sad to say, but in today's society, you need to be more cautions then ever before, sometimes costing a sale. I am glad to say that with the exception of a few bad eggs, the majority of My customers are honest and loyal. Sometimes you do have to take a chance, which you did and proved to be the correct option.
