jimmyadd
Hello, I used this a few years ago, and never got very fair as I was just doing it for fun. But now, I want to make an e-commerce website and want some opinions on templates and such. Are templates a reliable way to set up a website? Is it easy to change the products from the demos to your products? How long would that take per product on average? Can you use the standard shopping cart, I heard something about problems with the PCI? Are templates easy to modify, or is that difficult and the point of them is to find one that fits you perfectly? Thanks for your opinions, Jimmy
♥geoffreywalton
I suspect you will not get a good reception here on the subject of templates. The code is hacked and then people come here for support as they can't/don't get much/any from the template seller. It is then difficult to support as the changes from stock osc can be massive. So in answer to question 1, I would say no. Yes, I wrote an add on to clear out the test data. Easy populate will allow you to upload products from a speadsheet. Yes, pci is about storing / sending cc info. You will need to install payment module for the cc company you choose to work with. Final answer, no they cause more problems than they are worth. end of rant!! Thanks for your opinions, Jimmy Jimmy, Both of the posts above are valid and you should consider them. However, if you find a template that you like but you still want to take advantage of the most current stable release of osCommerce, use the Simple Template System to integrate your template design into the stable code. I wrote a step by step on how to do the above: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...p;#entry1131089 Post #2587 Quote Bill Kellum Sounds Good Productions STS Tutorials & more: STSv4.6, STS Add-ons (STS Power Pack), STS V4 Forum STS Forum FREE TEMPLATE
