Hi there,

This is melting my head! I need help.

If I dont return to site after Paypal payment, the Order does not show in admin. I'm sure this has risen its head before. There is acontribution but it doesnt work with OsCommerce version 2.2.

What do I do? It works fine if I just return to the site but cant risk it.

Any help, much appreciated!

Thanks

I am having the same problem. I keep seeing everyone talking about a Paypal IPN contribution that should also help with this, but when I search for IPN or Paypal IPN in the contribs, I can't figure out which one everyone means!

There is a very long post about this problem, but see #36 at the end: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...p;#entry1343449

I am trying this to see if it works. There also seems to be a tradeoff regarding the option on the "Website Payments Preferences" screen in your Paypal account. If you set "Paypal Account Optional" to "On", your customers can pay without setting up a Paypal account, which is desirable. HOWEVER, they will not be automatically returned to your site (which you need for the order to get recorded), but will instead be given the OPTION to return. You can see discussion about this on the post mentioned above, earlier than post 36. Personally, I am going to try to leave that option ON so people can pay without setting up Paypal and HOPE that most of them choose to return to the website. I'll deal with the few that don't by contacting them to verify order information.

In your paypal account you can setup a return url. I think its in the profile page somewhere. Once the tranaction is completed customers will be automatically returned to your site. I have mine set to return them to the checkout confirmation page.

REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP

This is what my client currently has. When I bill someone with a button or whatever, it allows them to pay without setting up an account, but for the client store, once they check out and go to paypal, they are asked to sign up for an account. I think this will be a big turn-off for a lot of people.

But if the sale can't be recorded unless they return and they won't return with that option on, I don't know which is more preferable. Not getting sales because people are turned off or not recording sales that the client actually gets.

:(

I know you do for pay now buttons, a payment made url and a cancel payment url. So you could send them to a thank you page or a thanks for nothing page I suppose, but I'm not in the client paypal and I can't see a default setting for allowing them to pay without creating an acct anywhere so I can tell the client where it is if they want to turn it off. I searched for it but no go.

In the contributions section do a search for paypal. I found it on the secong page.

Yes, I had done that search, but here is the problem: there is one called "Paypal IPN for Easy Export" that says "This modules uses the Holding Orders Contrib and PayPal IPN module to Store PayPal orders separately until payment is confirmed by PayPal IPN. This allows PayPal orders to work better with many export systems, including Stone Edge's Order Manager (this contrib is not by, nor is supported by Stone Edge.) and others." So what is the "Paypal IPN module"? It doesn't appear to be the same as the basic Paypal module that comes with install. They are referred to separately on other posts. There is also "Paypal IPN icon at checkout, but that is just to put an icon on there.

OK, I just found a contrib that might do it. I am going to try this one. It looks promising: "Make Paypal Return Order Data" - http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,3819

I just installed and tested this and it looks like it will be a good solution! If the user does not return back to your site after payment, the order shows up in your admin on a "Held Orders" screen (it is added to the navigation menu, just under "orders"). Nice!

I tested it by paying with Paypal, then closing my browser window before it had time to redirect me to my site. Sure enough, the order did NOT show up on the "Orders" screen, but DID show up on the "Held Orders" screen. The admin can do everything from that screen they can do from the orders screen. I'll let you know if there are any problems with this over time as we receive more "real" orders.

Can anyone give me the link to the Paypal IPN contribution people keep referring to in other posts? I can't seem to find it in contribs. Maybe it is a better solution.

Here you go - PayPal IPN v2.3.3 ;)
