Thumbnail Problem

I am uploading my catalog and I know that the shopping cart makes the thumbnails at the size you request in the config admin area. Anyways, the thumbnail is the same size as the original picture as in KB. My pics are 300 pixels X 400 pixels. I have the thumbnails sized by the shopping cart admin control panel at 75 pixels X 100 pixels but they both are 25K which is WAY WAY to big for thumbnails. Can someone please help me out. How do I change this? Thanks in advance

The osc doesn't make thumbnails.

it upload only one image and the small/big size is done through admin images

for thumbs, you need to add a contribution

(see contributions area image)

Thanks for replying. When you say see contributions area image do you mean on the message board?

I have no idea how to do these thumbnails. I'm thinking I got over my head when I hooked up with this cart :)

DenverDave,

You're going to have to use some image manipulation software, ie, Photoshop or whatever and create thumbnails from there. Resize the image to an appropriate size, save as a .gif, etc. Normally, with Photoshop, my thumbnails are about 5kb in size.

Thanks and I'm not the expert here, but we have to use a programming approach to dynamically create the thumbnails. There are several contributions that address this and I think the mo_pics_categories was recommended on another thread. I was just curious if the other poster ended up the same place.

I tried to talk my client in to using a photo editor to create the right size main image and perhaps a thumbnail and they told me where to go. They pointed out to me in no uncertain terms that eBay does this for them automatically and they expected me to provide the same functionality.... "Yes mam", I said.

I think we have techniques here in the contributions area to do this - I was just getting a second opinion on where to start.

Thanks.

Denver Dave,

I use ThumbsPlus to make thumbnails - you can take an entire directory of images & 'thumbnail' them all with just a few clicks & filling out a quick form giving the dimensions & format you want - took maybe 2-3 minutes to do thumbnails for over 500 pictures...

Then again, you might be able to batch-process a bunch of images at once in Photoshop too - I'm just not familiar w/ that aspect of Photoshop...

I just installed the bigimage1.23a contrib. It works well, but the 1.137 version of Catagory.php page in admin is different from the 1.138 version I had installed. Being new to osCommerce I don't know if this was the old style or something is broken. If FC is watching, what is the difference?

The big image works great on the catalog pages!
