Hi everyone. The next phase I'm moving into in setting up my online shop is hooking it up to a payment gateway.

Just curious, what payment gateway do you use and are you satisfied with it? Do you recommend one over another?

I've been thinking PayPal is the way to go. I would like it if my customers could purchase from the payment gateway without having to sign up for an account there.

It's really just a matter of cost. Authorize.net is the most stable and causes the least amount of problems but it is also the most expensive to use, unless your sales volume is high. Paypal Standard is the least expensive for startup shops but the customer has to go to paypal to complete the payment. Paypal Pro is a cross between Paypal Standard and Authorize.net in that the cost is higher but it also allows onsite payment. So if you are a new shop, you should go with Paypal Standard. As your sales increase, you can move to one of the modules that allows onsite payment.

Paypal Pro is $20/month plus fees, unless they have changd it lately. Authorize.net depends a lot on your authorize.net reseller. There is a signup fee that some charge and others don't. That can be as high as $300. There are monthly gateway fees, per item fees and account fees. But it mostly depends on the volume of sales. I doubt that you can get an authorize.net account for less than $25/month though.

¨plus fees¨ means after charging you $20/month they still charge a fee for each transaction?

Jack,

I don't suppose you know why my prices on my home page show with an extra 2 zeros at the end, do you?

For example, the price for $50.00 on my home page shows as $50.0000 and $49.95 shows as $49.9500

However, on the product description page, the price shows fine?

Any ideas?

Thanks

We use www.myvirtualmerchant.com by US Bank. It can handle gift cards and multiple merchant accounts from one login. We do international orders with it no problems. The tech support is fantastic and the rates are unbelievably cheap compared to most processors. Also, US Bank is the gateway (myvirtualmerchant.com), the merchant account and processor. Funds are deposited into our account the same day, no waiting 2 to 3 days with other stores. If you are interested let me know as I wrote a script for myvirtualmerchant.com. I will be posting it as a contrib in the next couple weeks.

I had been trying to set up an account with Virtual Merchant, and I used the developer guide document to code our osCommerce pages to call their URL for processing charges, but the information I have from the sales person is confusing. I am curious about how yours is set up. I had thought that I could use our website to post transaction info to their site and receive back accept or decline info. When I contacted them about creating an account so that we would get a merchant ID and PIN, I was told that I need to purchase their gateway software. The rep is telling me "you can’t just created your own gateway / payment software". I thought that was the whole point. I thought that I would just be paying a transactional fee and minimal monthly charge. Did you have to pay for software even though you wrote your own script?

There is a setting in the admin->Localization for how many decimal places to use. I would check that first.

You could try reading through these posts but I think your problem is going to end up being your template. I've seen it happen before with them. I suggest you contact the company you bought it from and tell them to fix it.

Thanks Jack. Actually, I asked this question in another forum and someone figured it out (almost) today - I just had to make a couple tweaks for my template's code.

Looks like whoever coded my template was calling for the price directly from the database on my index page.

In any case, I got it to work.

Thanks for all the help. It's much appreciated.
